Winterfest – A Fantasy of Lights in Gatlinburg, TN

The first Friday of December each year features Gatlinburgs”Fantasy of Lights” Christmas Parade. Ranked as one of the Top 20 Events in the South, the parade starting at 7:30pm features over 100 floats and entries as well as marching bands, helium balloons and of course, Santa Claus.

The parade startsjust west of City Hall and makes its way through downtownGatlinburg.This is a big event for the kids and adulst and many arrive early and mark their spots, however, if you are open to walking after you park you can find agood spotoff the parkway. Dress warm and bring a blanket as it was in the low 30’s with someflurriesfor last years parade. Lower temperatures at night are not uncommon.

Elk Springs Resort Gatlinburg Cabins are within an 8 minute drive to downtown Gatlinburg and within 5 minutes to city hall. You can avoid the heavy gridlock traffic on the spur and within Gatlinburg by driving to food city or to city hall and then walking to the event. During the parade, the spur and downtown are in a virtual gridlock and unless you really know the backroads you will either get lost or will not be able to leave the parade until late into the eveining.The resort is conveniently located to allow easy access to the parade and an easy against traffic route when leaving early or when the parade is over.
