Gatlinburg, TN – Can you believe that it is November already? We can’t either! With Halloween already behind us and Thanksgiving just a few weeks away, it is time to start getting excited about winter in Gatlinburg. Every year the good people of the Great Smoky Mountains gather for two events that herald in the cooler weather. There is still time to rent your favorite luxury cabin rental for next weekend and join us as we prepare for a cold yet exciting winter season in Gatlinburg, TN.
This year the Winter Magic Kickoff willl be held on November 9th. Besides candy canes, hot chocolate and big delicious turkeys, what puts you in the mood for winter? How about chili? There is nothing like a big, steaming hot bowl of chili to warm you up on even the coldest of wintery days. In order to herald in winter with a bang, the people of Gatlinburg invite you to the Winter Magic Kickoff and Chili Cookoff. This is a family-friendly event that you will find yourself raving about for weeks afterward. While admission is free, you will want to purchase an $8 wristband to sample all of the chili vendors you will find inside.
Cast your vote for the best chili in Gatlinburg while listening to the Tams, a local band that features MoTown music. There will be several other musical acts featured throughout the night, so feel free to start dancing – just be sure to avoid getting chili on your favorite sweater!
After your belly is completely filled to the brim with award-winning chili, bring your family on over to the Parkway for the first night of Winter Magic. Every night the city of Gatlinburg will be illuminated thanks to millions of LED lights along the Parkway. It is truly a winter wonderland that becomes even more so when the first snow falls in winter. Grab a cup of hot chocolate and take in all of the lights, which can be seen on the Parkway, River Road and where they meet. Thanks to the multi-million dollar conversion from regular Christmas lights to LED lights, the city of Gatlinburg is contributing to the green energy movement by reducing its energy usage during the winter season.
Your kids will love walking down the Parkway not just on Nov. 9th, but every night that your family is staying in Gatlinburg. The lights feature a variety of creatures that are native to the area, including foxes, squirrels, deer and rabbits. Since the light show began 22 years ago, it has garnered national attention, bringing families from all around the country.
After a busy day of eating chili and taking in the lights, you will want to relax at your luxury cabin rental. We recommend grabbing some blankets from inside and sitting out the rocking chairs on your porch. Gather the kids around and tell your favorite holiday stories, all while gazing out over the clear night sky. As the year draws to an end, spending this extra time with your family is just what you need before diving into 2012.
