No matter what type of art you appreciate the most, it is always interesting to see what local artisans are creating when you visit a new town like Gatlinburg, TN. The beginning of the year brings the Sevier County Juried Biennial Exhibition and 2011 represents the fifteenth year that this exhibit has been running. This year the exhibit will be displayed from January 7 to February 26 at Arrowmont in the Sandra J. Blain galleries.
Each year artists are invited to submit their pieces for consideration in this exhibit. However, not everyone is given a change to display unless they are invited. The winning pieces truly represent the premier artistry of the Great Smoky Mountains as created by those who live here. Although it is a serious exhibit for those artists who are chosen to show it is a laid-back atmosphere that is welcoming of all art-appreciators, from casual admirers to connoisseurs.
The Arrowmont School of the Arts runs workshops and classes all year long for artists both local and global. They are located at 556 Parkway in Gatlinburg.
