Still thinking about getting away for Easter…maybe in Gatlinburg, TN? If so, there is still time! There is nothing quite like spending Easter amidst the quiet yet profound beauty only found in the Great Smoky Mountains. Whether you want to spend all weekend relaxing in your cabin or venture out into Gatlinburg, there is plenty to see and do over Easter weekend.
Sure, you have been to beautiful Easter services inside churches. But have you ever attended a service on top of a mountain at sunrise? You can do just that at Ober Gatlinburg. Each year people from around Gatlinburg and the southeast flock to the Annual Easter Sunrise Service. This is the 12th year that the service has been held high atop the mountain and each year it only gets bigger and more special.
Each service lasts between 30 to 40 minutes and is led by a group of local pastors. Because the service has become so popular over the past few years, it is important to arrive early to get a seat with your family and friends. The offering that is collected during the service goes to needy people in Sevier County.
Thanks to the generous people at Ober Gatlinburg, the tram ride up to the mountain top will be free for the service. The first tram goes up at 5:45 and will leave every 15 minutes until the service has begun. If you wish to drive up the mountain instead, there will be complimentary parking provided by the resort. Shortly after the service ends, you can attend a breakfast buffet at the Ober Gatlinburg Restaurant; the breakfast service will begin at 7:15.
If you are like most people, you will arrive for the weekend late Friday or early Saturday. That gives you plenty of time to walk around Gatlinburg, go for a hike or visit Ripley’s Aquarium. During this weekend you can also enjoy the Smoky Easter Arts & Crafts Show that is held at the Gatlinburg Convention Center. Held from Thursday April 5 to Saturday April 7, the craft show is sponsored by the Gatlinburg Arts and Crafts Community. You can find a variety of arts and crafts designed by local artisans, as well as artists from around the country. Admission is free to the public.
Of course, no Easter would be complete without a visit from the Easter Bunny! There are several spots in Gatlinburg and in neighboring towns where you can bring your children to pose with their favorite bunny. Have brunch with the Easter Bunny on Apr. 7 at the Old Mill Square, visit with the bunny at the Incredible Christmas Place or participate in an old fashioned Easter egg hunt at the Pigeon Forge Community Center. All of these events are just a short drive from your luxury cabin rental.
Need directions to any of these exciting events? Don’t hesitate to contact us at the main Gatlinburg Rentals office. We can also suggest local churches that will be holding Easter services. Have a wonderful Easter holiday from the Elk Springs Resort.
