Love to Fish? Visit Gatlinburg, TN for the Smoky Mountain Trout Event

Gatlinburg Trout Fishing

Gatlinburg Trout Fishing

If you love nothing more than pulling on a pair of waders, stocking up your tackle box and tuning up your rod, then you need to sign up today for the Smoky Mountain Trout Event in Gatlinburg. Now in its twelfth year, this event brings people from all around the southeast and beyond to fish for prizes and, well, fish, from the cool waters of the mountains. This competition is open to both visitors and locals alike, so bring your favorite fishing rod to the Elk Springs Resort Gatlinburg cabin rentals this weekend to participate in one of Gatlinburg’s most anticipated events.

Also known as the “Trout Rodeo,” just about anyone can compete in the fishing tournament. The City of Gatlinburg has set aside September 24 and 25 for the tournament, and is anticipating an even bigger crowd than last year. Just for the tournament, the city will add 1,800 big fish into the waterways, ranging from 3 to 8.5 pounds. All toghether there will be about 10,000 fish swimming around, just waiting for your shiny hook to attract their attention. You better bring your strong arms for some of the fish you could catch this year!

After you register by phone or online, you will need to pick up a Gatlinburg daily fishing license. This is required by state law, and anyone who is found without a license will not be permitted to participate in the fun. Don’t forget to pick up a trout stamp too, which can be done wherever fishing licenses are sold. After that, simply pack up your gear and get ready for two solid days of fishing.

Besides the fame and glory of winning the tournament, there are also cash prizes at stake. While those who catch the largest fish will win cash, the smallest fish can also snag you some small cash prizes as well! Prize winners can also expect awards, trophies, and even amusement passes and accommodations in the area. There are four divisions that you can register in: tourist youth and adult, and local youth and adult. In total, there will be twelve winners, the first, second and third places winners from each division.

Want to know a secret about the tournament? Locals know that the best place to fish during the tournament is anywhere a bridge runs over the river. These points are where the city normally stocks the waterways, so you are more likely to find the big trout you are searching for to win the tournament with. Be sure to stake out your spot early as there will be hundreds of participants lining the waterways, hoping just like you to catch that winning fish.

Whether you are an avid fisherman or just want to participate in a fun, family-friendly event, the Smoky Mountain Trout Event is a great event to sign up for this weekend. After you have caught your fish, you can bring it back “home” to your luxury Gatlinburg cabin rental and cook up a feast. With a full-sized kitchen and a gas grill out on the porch, you can whip up a first-rate meal and talk about how much fun your day of fishing was.
