You deserve a vacation in Gatlinburg, TN. Do you feel like you need one last vacation before the second half of the year starts? As everyone knows, fall heralds the busiest half of the year, chock-full of holidays, family parties and much more. That is why you should fit in a vacation for Labor Day weekend 2012. Luckily, the Elk Springs Resort still has a few cabins left to fill!
While you are here, there is plenty to see and do. Over the holiday weekend, you can take home some unique hand-made pieces of art from the Gatlinburg Fine Arts Festival. This yearly event draws people from all around Gatlinburg and the surrounding areas for a weekend of fun, art, music and delicious food. Held on the campus of the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, you will be able to speak with the artisans who have dedicated their lives to making unique art, right in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains.
This year the festival will be held from August 31 to September 2 and is just 8 minutes from Elk Springs Resort Gatlinburg cabin rentals. This is the eight year for the festival, with each year garnering more attention. The vendors are chosen by a jury who votes on who will participate each year. The participating artists will have a chance to win up to $10,000 in prizes in a variety of categories including pottery, woodworking and watercolor. The event is totally free and is perfect for families and artists alike. Learn more about each of the participating artists and have the chance to bid on their pieces once the festival has ended. It is a win-win situation for everyone!
While you are in town for the holiday weekend, you will need to stock up on some food for your luxury cabin rental. Gatlinburg is proud of its recently opened Farmer’s Market, an event which is held every Saturday during the spring and summer. To find the freshest produce in town, come to the Alamo Steakhouse parking lot located at 705 East Parkway. There you will find incredible fruits and vegetables, along with baked goods, all of which is grown and cooked locally. The market is open from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and runs until October 13, 2012. If you prefer to dine out while on vacation, you are in luck: Gatlinburg has some of the most delicious food you will find in eastern Tennessee. Since it will be a busy weekend, you will want to make reservations for some of the restaurants downtown ahead of time, especially for dinner.
A brief look at the upcoming forecast shows that Labor Day weekend 2012 in Gatlinburg is going to be just beautiful. The weather will be in the low 80s, which is perfect for day-long hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains National Parks, a whitewater rafting trip or just hanging around on the porch of your Elk Spring Resort cabin. It might get a little rainy as well, so don’t forget to pack a rain jacket and some games to play indoors, just in case. If you are planning a romantic getaway, pack a bottle of wine and some snack foods: a picnic on the porch during a rainstorm is one of our favorite ways to spend a lazy weekend away from it all.
