As the temperatures drop and we prepare ourselves for the upcoming holidays, there is still plenty to see and do around Gatlinburg. While it is tempting to stay indoors at your luxury cabin rental, there are a few events in the upcoming weeks that might tempt you away from a cozy fireplace. Check out the list below of upcoming fall 2012 Gatlinburg events to help you plan your next trip to the Great Smoky Mountains:
Vintage View Film Festival: The third annual film festival will be held this year on November 3rd, 2012. Held at the Pi Beta Phi Elementary School gymnasium, this unique film festival is ideal for movie enthusiasts and history buffs. The Pi Beta Phi’s Grand Council is responsible for hosting the event which features home films taken by members of the Gatlinburg community. These home movies go back decades and serve as artifacts of a Gatlinburg from long ago. The Gatlinburg Garden Club, a co-sponsor of the event, will use proceeds from the film festival for the ongoing reconstruction and restoration of the famous Lucinda Oakley Ogle cabin. Tickets are $10 per adult and can be purchased online or at the door. Since this event has grown in popularity over the past three years, it is wise to order your tickets now before they are sold out.
Winter Magic Kickoff and Chili Cookoff: Nothing says winter quite like a big steaming bowl of chili, right? That is how we feel here in Gatlinburg, which is why we are always so excited about this festival. This year the Winter Magic Kickoff and Chili Cookoff will be held on November 7th, 2o12. There is even more to look forward to this year! Head on down to the Parkway from 5 PM to 8 PM to start off the winter season with the locals. Gatlinburg celebrates each winter with millions of LED lights which are strung all along the parkway. On November 7th, the lights will be turned on for the very first time, helping to get everyone in the mood for the upcoming holiday season. With just a bit of chill in the air, you will quickly find yourself getting hungry for chili. Bring the whole family on down to this special event and bring your appetite, your dancing shoes for the live entertainment, and some cash for the chili sampling wristbands. At just $10 per person, these wristbands are a bargain considering how much homemade chili awaits you!
Trolley Ride of Lights: Once the lights are turned on in downtown Gatlinburg, there is no better way to take in the sights than on the Gatlinburg trolley. Starting on November 7th, your family can ride the trolley at night to see the millions of LED lights that illuminate Gatlinburg during the holiday season. For just $5 per person, you can board the trolley at 6:30 PM, 7:30 PM and 8:30 PM on a nightly basis. The trolley will run its “Ride of Lights” service until December 31st; however, it will not run on December 7th, the day of the Gatlinburg Christmas Parade. As you take the trolley ride through Gatlinburg, you will witness a variety of light displays that represent difference aspects of Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains.
