Whether you are an avid hiker or want an easy walk that is family-friendly, there is a trail for you among the 800 miles that are available to hike at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, with the main entrance just outside of Gatlinburg, TN. A quick fifteen minute drive through Gatlinburg from the Elk Springs Resort the Park Rangers are as helpful as they are knowledgeable about not only the trails but fauna and flora that are unique to the area. From waterfalls to old-growth forests there is something for everyone to enjoy there.
A guest who stayed recently at the Summit Sanctuary wrote this about the Rainbow Falls Trail (located off of traffic light #8):
From the cabin it took us about fifteen minutes to reach the trailhead for Rainbow Falls. Not a difficult trail, there are some logs and rocks in the path that are easily maneuverable and it took us about 1.5 hours to get to the falls. And what a reward it was! You can literally walk right under the falls and the cold mountain water felt so good after a hot hike up. There were even some deer eating on the path on the way down, very cool. We could have stayed for hours just enjoying the beauty but we were also excited to get back to our Gatlinburg Cabin Rental to reward ourselves with a long soak in the hot tub.
Thanks again for everything, we had a great time!
Not only are we crazy about mountain living but the staff at Elk Springs Resort each have a favorite trail that they love to go on at least once a year. If you need help picking one out for your family contact us or check out our site for a few recommended trails.
