Sure, it is still summer here in Gatlinburg,TN┬á and, wouldn’t you know it, the weather is still pretty darn hot.┬á So we have been daydreaming recently about the beautiful weather that fall will bring in a few weeks, and the dramatic changes in scenery that always accompany it.┬á If you haven’t ever visited our mountain town before you will want to make the trip this year during the fall, it is arguably one of the best times to see Gatlinburg in all of her glory.
As the temperatures start their downward climb in September, the kids get settled into their new classrooms, and we replace bathing suits for sweaters, it is time to think about how you want to spend your fall vacation.┬á You could fly to a foreign resort and battle the crowds, lounge on a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean, or you can explore your own country and experience its beauty firsthand in Gatlinburg, TN.┬á Many visitors come during the middle to end of fall when the leaves are changing colors, one of nature’s most astounding feats that will take your breath away; this is one of our busiest seasons as well, so you will want to book well in advance!
When you book your luxury Gatlinburg Cabins rental in Elk Springs Resort, you will wonder why you ever thought of booking one anywhere else.  Enjoy sleeping in huge, comfy beds; watch a movie in the theater room; play pool upstairs;  or cook on the gas grill; sit in a rocking chair and gaze up at the stars in the night sky.  Once you have settled in, take a drive into town to get a feel for this old yet modern mountain town that is filled to the brim with exciting activities.
If you brought the kids along, grab them and jump on an old-fashioned wagon ride through the downtown area from 5-9 PM (Sept. 1st – Oct. 29th) that offers fantastic views of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park (GSMNP) as well as a narrative of the area.┬á Then take them out for some candy at Fannie Farkles or an ice cream at Kilwins.
The next day you will want to lace up a sturdy pair of hiking boots to tackle on of many hiking trails available at the GSMNP.  This is the best time of year to hike, as the weather is cool yet not too cold yet, the sun is bright, and the animals are running around getting prepared for the long winter ahead; be sure to bring a camera along to capture the changing leaves up close and from specific vantage points along the way.
When you return to your cabin at night, you will want to make sure that there is plenty of hot chocolate waiting to drink by the gas fireplace – mini marshmallows are optional! The hot tub will also be waiting to warm you up on chillier nights, the perfect way to end your evening before slipping under the covers to await sweet dreams about how you will spend the rest of your vacation in Gatlinburg this year.
