Still haven’t made plans for the Fourth of July in Gatlinburg, TN? Don’t worry, we have a few Gatlinburg cabins left that are just waiting to be booked by families like yours. Whether you are bringing one person or eight, we have cabins that can accommodate parties both big and small. Just because the Fourth of July falls on a Wednesday this year doesn’t mean that Gatlinburg will not be celebrating it in a big way. Check out the list below to see what you can do during your stay at the Elk Springs Resort for the 2012 Fourth of July weekend:
Midnight Parade: If you want to experience something truly unique this year, check out Gatlinburg’s Midnight Parade. It is the only midnight Fourth of July parade held in the country, which also makes it the first parade of the year. This year is the 37th year that the city of Gatlinburg has held this unique parade and each year it gets bigger and bigger. Thousands of people are expected to crowd the streets of Gatlinburg to pay homage to both current and past service members. You will be able to see active members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard walking along the streets of Gatlinburg, as well as vintage military vehicles and local organizations. Since the parade is so popular, you may want to stake out your spot early: many people set up chairs as early as 7 AM the day before!
Fireworks Finale: No Fourth of July celebration would be complete without a fireworks display! This year the fireworks finale will be held at 10 PM and can be seen from most locations in downtown Gatlinburg. Bring along a folding chair, some drinks and a blanket to fully enjoy this much-anticipated annual event with both locals and tourists alike. This event was recently named a Top 2o popular event by the Southeast Tourism Society.
River Raft Regatta: Whether you want to participate or just watch, the River Raft Regatta is a fun event that also supports a great cause. Each year the residents of Gatlinburg enter this popular contest: just about anything that floats can be entered to win the grand prize in multiple categories. Entries can win in such categories as youngest entry, oldest entry, hand-made decorated and even the Ripley’s Believe it or Not entry. If you want to participate, you can sign up online or in person when you arrive in Gatlinburg. Of course, you can just head on downtown to watch all of the entries and see who wins this year’s big prizes!
Of course, you don’t even need to leave your luxury cabin rental at all this Fourth of July holiday. Each cabin comes equipped with a deluxe BBQ to cook hamburgers, hot dogs, veggies and so much more. You can play games out on the patio, go for a stroll around the Elk Springs Resort or just hang out on the porch in a rocking chair. If you need directions to any of the events listed above, don’t hesitate to contact us at the main office via email or by phone. We are looking forward to spending the Fourth of July with you in Gatlinburg this year!
