Admit it: you have been helping your children eat their Halloween candy. There might even be some at your desk at work, in your purse or even your coat pockets. When it tastes so good, how can you resist? But with the holidays coming up, you know that there is so much more eating to do than Halloween candy. A massive Thanksgiving dinner awaits and Christmas/Chanukah is certain to bring plenty of delicious food your way. So before you start to worry about whether your favorite pair of jeans is getting a little too tight, plan an active vacation in Gatlinburg, TN.
The Elk Springs Resort Gatlinburg Cabins is conveniently situated between everything you will want to do on your active week/weekend away from home. Sure, there are times when you want to take a relaxing weekend to do nothing but lounge around, watch movies and catch up on your favorite magazines. But this weekend is not it! Since the weather is still really nice in Gatlinburg – as high as the mid-sixties! – you wil want to get outdoors and take in the last of fall 2011. Below are our favorite activities for working up a sweat and putting smiles on the faces of our loved ones:
Bicycling: Did you know that the Elk Springs Resort covers 68 acres of land? It’s true! This vast area makes it easy for our guests to talk long walks and go bicycling without fear of road traffic. Feel free to bring your bike along or rent one in town.
Hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park: One of our all-time favorite activities, no matter what the season! With over 500,000 acres of land and 800 trails to explore, you simply cannot get bored at the GSMNP. Since the weather is a little cooler now, you will see tons of people with their backpacks, walking sticks and, of course, cameras! You will want to bring your own camera along to capture the immense beauty that can be seen from nearly every trail.
Horseback Riding: Whether you are a true equestrian or have never sat in the saddle before, you will be surprised at just how much you will need to participate during a trail ride. There are several companies in Gatlinburg that offer fall riding sessions. Try the Smoky Mountain Riding Stables or the Walden Creek Stables, both of which offer private and group trail sessions.
Miniature Golf: Okay, so this isn’t your typical workout activity, but we like to have fun while we work out, don’t you? When you bring the whole family along, we are certain that the intense rivalry between parents and children will get your blood flowing. We recommend the Hillbilly Golf Course located on the Parkway. Not your typical mini golf setting, you will need to take a tram up the mountain to play. Play one or both of the 18-hole courses that are 300 feet above street level.
Skiing: while the snow has not fallen just yet in Gatlinburg, our locals and regular visitors are gearing up for an active ski season. Plan your ski vacation now by booking your favorite luxury cabin rental at the Elk Springs Resort and checking out the website for OberGatlinburg. Located just a few minutes drive from your cabin, it is easy to get back and forth between the slopes and your cozy cabin.
